Japan Post Group Environmental Policy

Japan Post Group recognizes that one of our top management priorities is to protect nature and the environment and to pass on the irreplaceable global environment to future generations. We are committed to business activities and environmental conservation efforts aiming at reducing environmental burden, based on our Group Management Philosophy, “Stress the security and confidence of the Group network to demonstrate creativity and efficiency to the greatest extent possible as a private corporation”, “Provide customer-oriented services to support the lives of customers in local communities and aim for happiness of customers and employees”, “Pursue managerial transparency, observe rules and contribute to the development of society and the region”.

This Policy stipulates that recognition of environmental issues forms the basis of our conduct and specifies actions to “Actively promote environmental conservation and make a significant contribution to society through business activities” as stated in the Group Charter of Corporate Conduct , which is in line with the Group Management Philosophy. The Policy is approved by the Group CEO and is reported to the Board of Directors, and applies to all executive officers and employees. Furthermore, the Group is working with stakeholders, including suppliers and business partners, to reduce environmental burden.

・Compliance with Laws and Regulations

We shall comply with international environmental declarations, agreements and frameworks*, laws and regulations of the countries and regions in which we operate, and other agreements to which we have consented, to further engage in reducing the global environmental burden and preventing pollution.

・Governance and Management Framework

We shall strive to continuously improve our environmental management system by setting goals and targets to systematically implement environmental activities and establishing a governance framework to regularly review such activities. The status of compliance with this Policy as well as progress in environmental activities shall be regularly discussed by the Sustainability Committee and reported to the Management Meeting and the Board of Directors.
We shall proactively engage in information disclosure and awareness raising activities of environmental issues such as climate change and shall promote engagement with all stakeholders in the value chain, including suppliers, business partners, local communities, Group executive officers and employees, to contribute to environmental burden reduction and environmental conservation.

・Response to Climate Change

We shall strive to achieve carbon neutrality in our business operations by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption and promoting the use of eco-friendly products and renewable energy.

・Resource Circulation and Pollution Prevention

We shall contribute to realizing a circular society through our business activities by accelerating resource and energy conservation, implementing the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle), reducing waste emissions and water consumption, and engaging in countermeasures to control air, water and soil pollution.

・Natural Capital and Biodiversity Conservation

We shall recognize the true value of nature’s contribution to our business activities and shall be committed to conserving world’s forests and biodiversity, promoting sustainable use of forest resources to mitigate impacts on natural capital and biodiversity towards a nature-positive future.
