Japan Post Group AI Policy
Japan Post Group aims to contribute to the development of society and local communities and to the happiness of our customers and employees by utilizing our nationwide network of post offices. To this end, we will further promote the improvement of customer experience and employee convenience through the active utilization of AI.
On the other hand, as the utilization of AI requires consideration of AI-specific risks, we will act in accordance with this policy.
1. Ethical AI Utilization
Japan Post Group recognizes the risks that misinformation, disinformation, and biased information generated by AI may destabilize or disrupt society, as well as concerns that AI output may interfere with autonomous human decision-making, and will endeavor to take necessary measures.
Furthermore, we strive to utilize AI in a way that eliminates all unjust and harmful biases and discrimination. Based on the premise of attentively listening to each customer’s wishes and seeking to offer products and services suitable for every customer, we will involve human judgment as necessary to scrutinize AI-generated outputs and will make every effort to provide products and services in good faith and fairness.
2. Safe and Secure AI Utilization
Japan Post Group recognizes the importance of cybersecurity and information security, and endeavors to establish management structures and conduct continuous inspections and improvements. In the utilization of AI, we will review security levels in line with changes in the state of technology and endeavor to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
Moreover, when handling customer information in the utilization of AI, we will comply with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and other relevant laws and regulations, as well as Group privacy policy.
In addition, in light of the autonomous judgment and output characteristics of AI, we recognize that incorrect judgments or outputs may occur even in the absence of unauthorized manipulation or misuse.
Furthermore, to allow customers to use products and services with confidence, we will work to strengthen a risk management framework considering AI-specific risks, comply with relevant laws and social standards and internal rules, ensure proper utilization, and strive to avoid causing harm to customers’ life, health, property, and other interests.
3. Responsible AI Utilization
Japan Post Group will record AI input and output information, as well as reasoning processes, to the extent necessary and technically and administratively feasible, and will endeavor to keep them explainable to customers and employees within the range reasonably determined from perspectives such as privacy and the protection of trade secrets.
In addition, by ensuring the traceability of decision-making processes and other matters related to the utilization of AI by Japan Post Group to the extent possible, even in the event of malfunctions or incorrect guidance, we will work to identify causes, implement corrective measures, and provide appropriate information to customers and employees.
4. AI Utilization Education
Japan Post Group will provide ongoing education so that each employee understands the characteristics and risks of AI, is able to verify AI judgments and outputs, and possesses a sufficient level of AI literacy. We also strive to develop advanced AI personnel to further promote AI utilization.
5. Creation of Innovation Utilizing AI
Japan Post Group will endeavor to create innovation for the development of society and the region by proactively incorporating the latest technological trends and use cases of AI, as well as related expertise, both inside and outside Japan Post Group.
